Sketch!
The next step is to sketch out your yard. Include everything from existing lights, to furniture, to trees, and anything in between. Every object in your backyard will either reflect or absorb light, so being able to visually see the best placement options of your lighting is super helpful! Decide where to place your lighting.
This step is a joint effort between your wants and our expertise. Your purpose for lighting will affect the placement and type of lights you need. For instance, you can create a soft mood by hiding the lighting under a shrub or in between plants. If you wish to light up a path, you might want short stake lights, whereas you may prefer a spotlight to enhance certain backyard features, like a fountain.
Decide how much effort you wish to exhaust.
If you wish to install 120-volt lighting, this will use a significant level of effort. The wiring for 120-volt garden lights must be buried at a depth of 18 inches or encased in a conduit. Lower voltage landscape lighting only needs an outdoor receptacle and a transformer. The transformer converts 120 volts from the household line into a usable 12 volts. Either way, the wiring is the part that we leave to the licensed electricians.
